Evernote Food originally helped you save favorite meals by keeping pictures and notes on each one. The new version still lets you save pictures, but it also helps you find recipes and restaurants.
original version of Evernote Food had one menu item: My Meals. As of the latest version, My Meals doesn't have to be lonely anymore; new sections Explore Recipes, My Cookbook, and Restaurants have been added. Let's explore the new features.
Explore Recipes lets you browse through a huge selection (thousands, according to Evernote) of recipes from all over the Web. You'll find recipes from places you'll likely recognize, such as AllRecipes.com or Clean Eating.
My Cookbook will show you any recipes you've saved through the app, along with those you clip on the Web. When you save a recipe, you can add tags and notes so you can easily find it later. Luckily, Evernote and Evernote Food are linked together to allow you easy access to your saved food information.
Restaurants is a surprising new feature to the Evernote Food app. You can search by type of food you'd like to consume, or by the location. In this app, you're probably going to find better results by looking in a location than using a type of food. Sometimes restaurants can be miscategorized online if they don't manage a Web site or their social media.
My Meals remains an area for collecting pictures of the steps to make a dish, or the finished product -- along with notes.
Overall, this app update makes a lot of sense. There are already several platforms for sharing pictures of food, which also end up on Twitter and Instagram. Not that this is a bad thing, but Evernote Food could have been easily replaced by regular Evernote when it only had the My Meals category. With the new update, there's three new reasons to use the app, and perhaps even get rid of others on your device.
